Overview

Abend-Aid software runs in the background and intercepts batch job and online program abends. Abend-Aid writes a report of the abend to a Report database. (A report is also known as a SYSUDUMP, dump or abend). The report is written to either a departmental Report database or, the default Report database if a departmental database is not available. An entry is also recorded in the master Report directory for every Report written to a Report database.

Abend-AID Viewer

The Viewer enables you to view a directory of dumps and select a dump to diagnose the problem. When a dump is selected for analysis, a list of functions is displayed in the Primary Options menu.

In case of a batch job dump the following options are displayed:

  • Diagnostic Summary
  • Program Information
  • File Summary
  • LE (Language Environment) information

In case of a CICS dump the following options are displayed:

  • Diagnostic Summary
  • Program Information
  • CICS Trace
  • Terminal Detail
  • Task Detail
  • Control Blocks/Storage
  • File Request Summary
  • Last 3270 Screen
  • LE (Language Environment) information

Report Databases

If a department does not have its own custom Report database, abending jobs will be placed into the default Report database. All members of this database can be viewed or deleted by anyone. Therefore, it is recommended that customers build custom Report databases to keep them secure.

Building Custom Report Databases

Customers opting to have their own Report database, or need to have changes made to an existing database, should contact the OTech Service Desk via phone (916) 464 4311 or email ServiceDesk@state.ca.gov Customers must provide a Department prefix. The prefix will be used by Otech staff to build the Report databases. A Department can have multiple Report databases with different prefixes.

Staff from OTech Products Support Unit will assign access privileges for custom Report databases according to information provided by the customer.

Abend-AID Manuals
